Abandon the Midwest EP Release: Scared Stupid

Another great local band, Abandon the Midwest, recently released their EP Scared Stupid.

The Supervillains, personally produced and recorded ATM’s “Scared Stupid” at Rah Rah Rah records studio. “Abandon The Midwest really reminds us of the punk rock attitude that we built our own band’s foundation on, and as catchy as their songs are it was really a no-brainer for us to get behind them,” says Supervillains’ drummer/vocalist Dom Maresco.

Abandon the Midwest has recently opened for national acts (Guttermouth, Creepshow) and has been begun to serve its growing fan base with local headlining shows.

With most songs shorter than a movie trailer and consisting of common interests (cigarettes, vinyl, cheap beer, zombie apocalypse), Abandon The Midwest’s fast-paced live shows are becoming sweatier and more and more packed as word continues to get out about one of Central Florida’s hottest bands.

Tracks include:

  1. Hell
  2. Zombies
  3. Beer and Vinyl
  4. Disappointment
  5. Serial Killer
  6. Poltergeist

With-The-Punches-Seams-Stitches

So this guy caught my attention on Spotify yesterday…

I was listening to my “ssf.mob.pbc” playlist radio, consisting of bands like:

while working on some illustrations for a children’s book, and I saw this little beauty pop up in the bottom left corner of my Spotify window. I believe the track was  Home In A Lighthouse //  With the Punches.

Obviously that tiny little picture wasn’t large enough for me to figure out what was going on design wise, so I was like what the heck am I looking at here? It was the amount of fine detail in that tiny image that sparked enough curiosity for my brain to engage in the following thought process:

  1. Where can I find larger image of the album? this lead to… Oh man, how did the artist put this design together? What does it mean? Did someone actually stitch the band name and title? Is the stitching an actual photograph?
  2. Who designed With the Punches‘ album cover? No luck finding the artist yet, guess I have to go buy the album. 🙂
  3. What does this album sounds like? Not sure yet, have to listen to the whole thing… put that on my to do list for the weekend.
  4. What else do I need to know about this band? Oh they’re from the North East and they’re Pop Punk, I can dig it…

No luck finding the artist as of yet, and haven’t had a chance to listen to the entire album. But I can tell you, I liked Home In A Lighthouse and I’ll probably be checking out this album in the very near future.

My point with all of this nonsense is that sometimes it’s not only the music that is responsible for creating a fan. Sometimes it could be an awesome logo, a great cover design, or a T-shirt that sparks the journey from general music consumer to band fan.

For as long as I remember, New Found Glory‘s Sticks and Stones album cover has always been my favorite (probably also one of my top five favorite albums ever). It reminds me of how truly awesome it was to be a kid. I didn’t have to worry about much — other than how I was going to get my hands on the next best cd.

I think this artwork is also the perfect representation of the great songs on this album.

Speaking of NFG what does everyone think about their new single? Personally, I am digging it. I can’t wait for KILL IT LIVE October 8th!

For all my Orlando readers, who will I be seeing at their show in November?
